Crackle Paste produces results of intentional controlled cracking of the material as it dries. It is a white, light-weight ground made with a unique balance of solids and acrylic binders. The paste allows the artist to introduce a random, cracked look which can imitate an aged surface, like that seen on old frescoes or antiques. The intensity and consistency of the cracking can be varied by experimenting with the thickness of the application.
The ground can also be tinted with acrylics colors before application and then be painted or glazed onto a surface. Additionally, the artist can stain the paste with color once it is dry. Crackle Paste works best on a rigid support that has been primed with an absorbent undercoat such as gesso, high-load color or even house paint.
