Gouache
What is gouache "pronounced gwash"? Gouache has similar characteristics of watercolor, yet it dries to a matte finish and with higher opacity. It also dries more quickly and is more controllable than watercolor, which makes it a favorite medium for illustrators who want to render great detail. Often artists will use watercolor, gouache and pen & ink in the same piece, a multimedia approach that can produce terrific results.
