Heavy Body Acrylics were introduced by Liquitex in 1963, 8 years after the company first developed and made readily accessible a water-based fluid acrylic called Soft Body. It was the first heavy bodied acrylic and held a consistency similar to oil paint that is still maintained today. Characteristic of acrylic paint, Heavy Body dries quickly for easy layering and masking and, most importantly, can be thinned and cleaned up with just water.
Heavy Body acrylic colors have a rich, thick yet smooth consistency for traditional art techniques using brushes or knives, as well as for experimental and printmaking applications. Impasto applications retain crisp brush stroke and knife marks. Good surface drag provides excellent handling and blending characteristics with increased open-working time. The high pigment load in these paints produces rich, brilliant, permanent color.
The colors remain flexible when dry and thick, dry films of paint remain free of cracks and chips. Use these versatile paints for a wide variety of projects involving: collage and mixed media, screen-printing, mono-printing, block printing, and more.
