Oil Painting Ground is a non-absorbent ground that can create bright and firm surfaces for oil paintings. A safer alternative to traditional lead oil grounds, this product is formulated from alkyd resin instead of linseed oil to speed up the drying process - from six months to just a week. Just two layers of Gamblin ground is needed versus four layers of acrylic gesso.
The alkyd resin makes the surface more flexible while the barium sulfate gives the ground its tooth. Titanium dioxide gives the ground its opacity and more layers can also be applied for smoother surfaces. Gamblin Ground is a true painter's ground; it's safe, fast, and easy.
