Inspired by Edgar Degas’s antique recipe, SpectraFix Degas Fixative uses a unique blend of casein, water, and alcohol to provide safe, odor-free protection for your artwork. Perfect for indoor use, especially for those sensitive to chemicals. It is a non-toxic, fully archival fixative for pastel, charcoal, watercolor, gouache and multi-media techniques that seals and protects artwork while leaving colors brilliant. Allows for reworkable layering, and dries quickly to a water-resistant, invisible matte finish.
May be used on all papers, primed and unprimed canvas, wood panels, unglazed ceramic, stone, leather, glass, etc. Use under oil or acrylic paints to prevent underdrawings from smudging. Casein actually bonds permanently with the covering layer of oil paint, and similar to egg tempera, has been used for centuries for grisaille or colorful underpainting which can then be glazed with oil. It is not recommended as a final top coating for acrylic or oils.
