Where does FLAX ship?

We ship anywhere in the US. Orders come from our Oakland store, but inventory may be transferred from San Francisco, which can add a day or two to processing time.

What are the shipping costs?

    • Flat rate: $9.95
    • Free shipping: Orders over $65.00

What shipping carriers does FLAX use?

We ship via UPS or USPS and often reuse packing materials to stay eco-friendly.

What products are restricted to local delivery only?

Certain oversized, heavy, or fragile items (e.g., paper and boards) are only available for local delivery. Look for a red stop sign "L" icon on product pages to identify them.

What areas qualify for local delivery?

We deliver within a 6-mile radius of our stores, including San Francisco, Oakland, Piedmont, Alameda, Berkeley, Emeryville, Kensington, El Cerrito, and Albany. Check eligible zip codes for details. Deliveries are performed by a local courier service and products arrive in FLAX shopping bags or similar minimal packaging. 

How does in-store pickup work?

    • Orders are ready within 1-2 days (depending on inventory transfers).
    • You will receive an email confirmation when your order is available for pickup.
    • Orders not picked up within 30 days will be canceled and fully refunded. 

 

RETURN INFORMATION

What is FLAX’s return policy?

We want you to love what you buy! If you’re not satisfied, returns are accepted within 14 days with a receipt for a full refund, as long as items are:

    • In original packaging
    • In resellable condition

How to return:

    • In-store: Bring your item and receipt to any FLAX location.
    • Online orders: Submit a Return Request form or log into your account to start a return.

Exceptions & Fees:

    • Non-returnable items: Special orders, books, paper sheets, and seasonal items.
    • Restocking fee (20%) may apply to portfolios, fine pens, and studio equipment.
