Charbonnel Printing Ink is a range of water washable inks formulated with an emulsified oil basis that can be washed off with water. The colors have a high concentration of pigments for use as a traditional printing ink for block printing, etching, wood engraving, monotype and more. Made in France.
About the blacks:
Soft Black (The Expert Modifier): While it can be used alone for a muted look, this fluid ink is the ultimate modifier. Use it to soften the "tack" of stiffer inks or to decrease the intensity of a black that feels too aggressive for a specific plate.
Carbon Black (The Efficient Proofer): This is a fluid, warm black with low viscosity. It is designed to be wiped away effortlessly, making it the best choice for rapid sketching, test proofs, or for artists who prefer a lighter, more delicate touch.
Black RSR (The Supple Powerhouse): This warm-toned black offers a perfect middle ground. It is powerful and concentrated but has a medium viscosity that makes it significantly easier to wipe than the 55981.
F66 Black (Traditional Wiping): This black is favored for its balanced feel on the plate. It offers a "traditional" resistance during the wiping process, giving the artist greater control over how much ink remains in the grooves.
Black 55981 (The Universal Black): This is the most versatile black in the range. It features a neutral tone and high viscosity, ensuring it stays firmly in the lines during wiping. Best for detail.
Luxe Black (High Pigment Concentration): A premium, deep neutral black designed for maximum coverage. Its high pigment load provides extraordinary depth, making it a favorite for finished pieces that require a "luxury" finish.
Black 55985 (Deepest Intensity): Formulated with Prussian Blue, this ink provides the deepest, coolest shadows possible. It is exceptionally stiff (high viscosity), making it more challenging to wipe but unrivaled for achieving rich, velvety blacks.
