3D Paper Model, Peacock
Oh, dear. Where do I start? The kit is compact, with several laser-cut cards, each with dozens of pieces. The pieces, which are as small as 1/4" are arranged willy-nilly to maximize the use of the paper, an only partially numbered. The assembly instructions, which are contained in one-half of a quarter-sheet, are a series of tiny diagrams with cryptic arrows, and Roman numerals to suggest the order by which to assemble the peacock. Forceps, a magnifying glass, and task lighting are all mandatory. It took me 8 hours of painstaking work to assemble, and in the final step, the legs are not strong enough to hold up the rest of the creature. Some kind of adhesive is needed, since the laser-cut joints don't hold uniformly, but the pieces that need adhesive are tiny, and overwhelmed by cement on a toothpick. Very clever design (except for the load on the legs), but nearly impossible to execute. The kit needs a few extra copies of the smallest pieces, which are easily lost or fail first, especially the "joints." I am disappointed. The whole kit simply needs to be larger to be assembled readily.
