Hadley Northrop received a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1991, and spent seven years studying and painting in England before returning to settle in San Francisco in 1998.
She has had solo exhibitions at the Brahm Gallery in Leeds, England, the Pacific Grove Art Center, the offices of Supervisor Matt Gonzalez at San Francisco City Hall, and establishments around the Bay Area such as the Rite Spot and Dolores Park Cafe. In 2007 she became a member of San Francisco’s cooperative art gallery City Art, and shows regularly in that Valencia Street venue. She has participated in San Francisco Open Studios for twelve consecutive years at various group studios, her current location being Workspace Limited on Folsom Street.
Hadley’s favorite subjects are bar scenes, belly dancers and nighttime landscapes: people whose appearances catch her eye and places that look magical. Music, her time in England, the blurry photographs she works from, San Francisco’s Victorian architecture, and the painters of the nineteenth century influence her painting.
