The famed Blackwing pencil has a limited edition series called Volumes. Each quarter they release a new box of 12 pencils celebrating the people, places and events that have defined our creative culture. The Volumes series has become highly collectible.

The Blackwing 21 is a tribute to the craft of woodworking. Each pencil is made with special finger jointed slats created by combining two short slats together. It also features Blackwing's first-ever square barrel with an extra wide face so you can see the finger joints on each pencil. The number 21 represents the wisdom of "measure twice, cut once." The pencil’s firm graphite is perfect for measuring and marking cut lines, and then measuring them again.

The Story: Shakers were expert woodworkers who saw beauty in the usefulness of the things they made. Simple shapes, solid joinery, and unadorned materials were the foundation of Shaker design. Their commitment to craftsmanship, materials, and simplicity of form inspired generations of woodworkers, within their communities and beyond.

Today, woodworking is an exercise in precision, intuition, and mindfulness. The adage “measure twice, cut once” encourages woodworkers to slow down, be present, and make purposeful choices. A good rule for woodworking, and a good rule for life.
