Made in small precision batches, Williamsburg Handmade Oil Colors are recognized for being richly pigmented and dense. Each color is treated individually, with each pigment ground to the nature of that specific color, bringing out the beauty and preserving the wider range of differences that were common in the past.

The colors have excellent lightfastness, with the exception of Alizarin Crimson and Van Dyke Brown. Titanium White, Titanium-Zinc White and Flake White are considered Safflower Colors because they have been formulated with a far less yellowing safflower binder. This quality is invaluable for holding onto maximum clarity and brightness when layering.

Williamsburg also offers colors of traditional native Italian earths. More recently these earth colors such as, Italian Lemon Ochre and Italian Pompeii Red, have been primarily used by art conservators because of their scarcity. Now the same pigments used by the great Sienese and Florentine masters are available. All are authentic and come from the regions of Italy made famous by these pigments.
