Beauty from the Beach

Growing up in the art supply business led to an understandable appreciation for art in its many forms. So when the genesis for new art is the beach, and the result is wonderful pieces of art… More »

New Oilbars are Buttery Smooth
Winsor & Newton has reintroduced the newly formulated Artists’ Oilbar with a new buttery consistency that enables fluid painting and drawing directly onto surfaces. Long awaited by artists who appreciate the freedom and directness of pastels or charcoal, the Oilbar is a stick of pure oil color that delivers immediate expression in rich colors. Artists’ Oilbar is fundamentally different from oil pastels and oil crayons due to its unique formulation. Oilbars dry just like normal oil paint, slowly over time unlike oil pastels which never dry. The new range has a spectrum of 50 colors, each of which is produced by combining artists’ quality pigments with linseed or safflower oil, blended with specially selected wax. A colorless blender allows you to… More »
Recycled Pigment Dust – Oil Paint Competition
Creating oil paint can be messy (and somewhat dangerous). At Gamblin Artists Colors, an abundance of pigment particles are collected at the factory in their Torrit® Air Filtration system that captures airborne dust. Each Spring, those collected pigments are recycled and formulated by paint makers into “Gamblin Torrit Grey”. If you took all the pigments in the color spectrum and mixed them together, what color would you make? The mix of pigments varies from year to year, so Torrit Grey is always unique and will never be repeated. The actual color tends to have a greenish tinge because of the powerful strength of the Phthalo Green pigment, (a dark bluish green). The color ranges from a medium dove grey to a dark… More »
