Faber-Castell Creative Academy

Date of workshop: Saturday, May 21, 2011, 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Faber Castell PencilsWe are pleased to present our first Creative Academy Workshop from Faber-Castell. Local artist Glenn Brill will be teaching tips and techniques on using some of Faber Castell’s finest artist pencils and markers. Glenn will specifically be using Polychromos colored pencils, Albrecht Durer watercolor pencils, and the Pitt art markers, all of which we offer in the store, of course.

Artists today face a wide and often confusing array of drawing materials. Regardless of whether you are working in a traditional or modernist manner the selection of the most appropriate drawing material effects the quality of the finished work as well as the quality of the drawing experience.  This workshop will explore characteristics of a variety of Faber Castell drawing media and how the individual characteristics are suited in context with a variety of drawing venues.

Topics to be covered include:

Faber Castell Pencils

  • Sketching as a way of seeing and preparing
  • Matching materials to visual effect…..a survey of materials and their properties and when to use them (e.g. for figurative studies, still lifes, on paper, on canvas)
  • Values; creating form and establishing light with value development
  • Expressing an individual artistic statement by the marks you make

About the materials:

PITT artist pens use India Ink that is acid free, waterproof when dry and odorless.  The brush nib is long lasting and sturdy, and can be refreshed by simply removing the nib and turning it over to reveal a fresh point!  PITT artist pens are available in brush nibs, as well as a BIG brush nib that is larger and has 4 times as much ink!  PITT artist pens won’t bleed through paper like traditional markers, and are great for all types of surfaces including canvas, fabric, wood and ceramic.

Albrecht Durer Watercolor Pencils are trusted by professional artists as the finest quality watercolor pencil available.  Albrecht Durer watercolor pencils bear the name of German artist Albrecht Durer who early on created botanical, wildlife and landscape watercolor paintings.  The watersoluble leads of these pencils are break resistant, dissolve completely leaving only the richest color behind and are waterproof when dry.  All 120 color of the Albrecht Durer pencils are color matched to all Faber-Castell lines.

Polychromos Color Pencils have unsurpassed lightfastness, break resistant leads, are waterproof, non smudge and color matched to all Faber-Castell lines.  Polychromos have been produced since 1908 and are known the world over as a best of class pencil!

This seminar is free, but seating will be limited. Register for this event to the right,  visit us at the store, or call store manager Joni Marie at 415-552-2355.
